What was the relationship between Joseph, son of Jacob and Joseph?
Both are named Joseph, and both protected their family in Egypt. Genesis 47:12; Matthew 2:13-14

What Tradition teaches
The Bible does not connect them. Pope Leo XIII taught that Joseph, the son of Jacob, was a figure of Saint Joseph. He wrote it in the encyclical Quamquam pluries (1889), number 4. Pope Francis recalls that “Go to Joseph” comes from this story in Egypt (Patris corde, 2020, 1).
