The Holy Rosary: how to pray it, and today’s mysteries
The Rosary is a prayer to the Virgin Mary that leads us to Jesus. As we repeat the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, we remember twenty moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary, called mysteries. Each day we pray five of them.

How to pray the Rosary, step by step
- On the crucifix: the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles’ Creed.
- On the first large bead, an Our Father. On the next three small beads, three Hail Marys, asking for faith, hope, and charity. Then a Glory Be.
- On each large bead, announce a mystery and pray an Our Father.
- On the ten small beads that follow, pray ten Hail Marys while thinking about that mystery. At the end, a Glory Be. This is called a decade.
- Pray five decades this way. At the end, pray the Hail, Holy Queen and, if you wish, the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- When praying with others, one person says the first part of each prayer and everyone else answers with the second.
