What was the relationship between Hosea and Jesus?
Hosea recalled that God called Israel, his son, out of Egypt. Matthew applies these words to the child Jesus, who came back from Egypt. Hosea 11:1; Matthew 2:15

Hosea 11:1
As the morning passeth, so hath the king of Israel Israel was a child, and I loved him: and I called my son out of Egypt.
Matthew 2:15
That it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called my son.

What the Church teaches
The Catechism says that Jesus’ return from Egypt recalls the exodus and presents him as the definitive liberator.
