Uz

A place in the Bible

The land where Job lived, in the East. In the Douay-Rheims it is called “Hus.”

What happened here

  1. Job: in the land of Uz lived Job, a good and upright man, who feared God and avoided evil.
  2. The greatest: he had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, and many servants. He was the most important man in all the East.

Today

No one knows where it was. People think it was east or southeast of the Holy Land, toward Edom or Arabia.

Where it appears in the Bible

Job 1:1; Job 1:3

What the Bible says

Job 1:1

There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, and that man was simple and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil.

Job 1:3

And his possession was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a family exceeding great: and this man was great among all the people of the east.
