Susa, the city of the king of Persia
A place in the Bible
One of the capitals of the king of Persia. His palace was there. In the Douay-Rheims it is called “Susan.”
What happened here
- Nehemiah: he was in the palace of Susa, in the service of King Artaxerxes.
- Mordecai and Esther: in Susa lived a Jew named Mordecai. The king loved Esther more than all the others, placed the crown on her head, and made her queen.
Today
Its ruins remain in southwestern Iran.
