Rome
A place in the Bible
The capital of the Roman Empire, which ruled in the time of Jesus. Today it is the city of the Pope.
What happened here
- The first Christians: on the day of Pentecost, in Jerusalem, there were people who had come from Rome.
- The letter: St. Paul wrote a letter to the Christians in Rome: the Letter to the Romans.
- St. Paul in Rome: he arrived in Rome as a prisoner. He lived for two years in a rented house, and he proclaimed the kingdom of God without anyone stopping him.
- Peter and Paul: according to tradition, St. Peter and St. Paul died as martyrs in Rome. The Pope, the Bishop of Rome, is the successor of Peter.
Today
Rome is the capital of Italy. Inside the city is Vatican City, where the Pope lives.
