Nebo
A place in the Bible
A mountain in Moab, across the Jordan from Jericho. From there Moses saw the Promised Land.
What happened here
- Moses: he went up Mount Nebo, and the Lord showed him the whole land.
- “You shall not enter”: the Lord told him this was the land he had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses saw it with his own eyes, but he did not enter it.
- His death: Moses died in Moab. He was buried in a valley, and no one knows where his tomb is.
Today
It is identified with Mount Nebo, in Jordan, near the northern shore of the Dead Sea. On the top there is a church that remembers Moses.
Where it appears in the Bible
Deuteronomy 34:1; Deuteronomy 34:4; Deuteronomy 34:5-6
What the Bible says
